I was about seven when I realized I was hopelessly right-brained. Between the stress of sweating over math problems and puzzling out science experiments, I’d take refuge in two things: story time and art class. So you can imagine my shock (and the feverish glee of a child given a new box of crayons) when my teacher asked us to write a story and illustrate it. The idea that the pictures in my head could live on the page (and in this case, then bound in cardboard and fabric like a real book!) made my pencil move like never before.
And to be honest, it’s never stopped. Over a career in various non-profit organizations, time spent studying and teaching in South Korea, and countless days doodling in the margins of my meeting notes, I realized that what I love most about my day job—highlighting the humanity of the people I work with, telling their stories—isn’t incompatible with my favorite hobby. It’s actually what drives my desire to fill the world with as much art as I can. To make people smile, or think. Or both, on an especially good day.
Socci Studio is the culmination of decades of drawing (with newer adventures in making digital art) and a deep breath to make my daydream into reality. That’s the ethos of this space: my goal is to take your own dreams and turn them into designs, the way I’ve dreamed of this graphic design studio. I’d love to learn more about what you care about, and to work with you to breathe new life into your projects.
Let’s fill the world with beauty.
